This study was a survey research on the adjustnent, stress, and mental health of the firstyear students, Mahidol University. The sample size was 300 students which were randomly selected by simple random and accidental samplings. SelFadministeres questionnaires were used to collected data from 200 students but only 195 were completed for the analysis. The group interviews were also done with 100 students for qualitative analysis to support the quantitative data analysis. Students were asked about their perception of selFadjusunent and feelings on stess and mental health related to nine topics, physical health and development, emotion, sociability, recreation, relationships within their families, their family status, religion, learning, teaching, and curriculum, as well as their future life and career. Percentage and Chi-square test was used to analyzed data. Resuls revealed , for the overall, that more than half of these students perceived these topics including their personal, family, learning, and social matters as problems of only a liule to moderate levels, not so serious problems. However, they perceived their problems on leaming and parents' expectation to be more likely to lead to their stress than any other topics but they could manage. Some independent variables such as sex, parents' occupation, family income, and status, all had made no difference on students' adjustrnent, stress, and mental health at 0.05 level of sigrrificance, but 0.01 level of significance on students' accommodation. In general, the adjustment and stress management are delicate and sensitive matters which based on personal mental shength and ablity. However, the following actions were recorrrmended as (1) action research in the classroom should be considered to be done in order to really know students' nature and characteristics, weak points and strong points, and used these data for teaching and learning activities as well as curriculum development for effective graduates; (2) counselling unit or center should be set up to help some weak students and to collaborate with students families to prevent some undesired problems; (3) training on spiritual and mental empowerment should be provided for students to help them building up their spiritual and mental strengfi, thinking rationally, making decision effectively , and taking appropriate action accordingly.en_US
