Challenges and Future Tendencies in Thailand’s National Education System
    (2024) Wichai Siriteerawasu
Innovation and technological advancements (e.g., Industry Revolution 5.0, Society 5.0, and Education 5.0) are currently progressing at an extreme rate and scale. These lead to a huge transformation in the educational system worldwide. The educational system of Thailand has been impacted by these advancements as well. However, research investigating the impacts of these advancements on Thailand’s educational system is still scarce. Because of this rationale, this research study was conducted and utilized a qualitative documentary research method to examine the notions of the Industry Revolution 5.0, Society 5.0, and Education 5.0 and their impacts on Thailand’s educational system. The data used in this research were collected from several sources and analyzed using a content analysis. The research findings indicated that it is important for educational institutions in Thailand to grasp the opportunities of these advancements by educating and training current and new generations of educators and students to be competent and cultivating them to be true global citizens. The finding of this research will help educational institutions and stakeholders in formulating policies and plans regarding the development of educational system at the institutional and national levels.

Elementary School Students' Perception of Integrating Unplugged and Plugged Coding Activities with Self-Questioning Strategies for Solid Waste Management (SDG11)
    (2025-01-01) Kamalabadi B.T.; Precharattana M.; Kamalabadi B.T.; Mahidol University
As technology shapes modern education, developing computational thinking (CT) in young learners is a critical priority. This study proposes an educational tool that integrates CT and metacognitive skills through unplugged (board games) and plugged (Scratch) coding activities within the context of solid waste management. The research incorporates self-questioning strategies to enhance CT, metacognitive skills, and environmental literacy among students in grades 3 to 5, equipping them with essential problem-solving abilities to cope with real-world challenges. The effectiveness of this approach was assessed through a students' perception questionnaire and interviews. Findings highlight students' perception of integrating CT and metacognitive strategies while demonstrating the complementary role of board games and Scratch programming as learning tools. This research contributes to developing K-12 curricula by promoting interdisciplinary approaches and engaging students in learning activities.

Engaging with Omission: Promoting Concern for Gender and Sexuality Diverse People in SDG 5 and Beyond
    (2023-01-01) Aggleton P.; Sciortino R.; Newman C.E.; Aggleton P.; Mahidol University
Since their adoption in 2015, the Sustainable Development Goals including Goal 5 have been criticized for their failure to recognize diversity of experience and expression with respect to gender, sex, and sexuality. Whether or not this exclusion was the intention of those who framed the goals and their associated targets is a matter of debate, but the reality is that gender-diverse people, together with their sex and sexuality diverse counterparts, remain largely absent from the SDGs (including Goal 5). In moving forwards, this chapter advocates for the need to recognize and address the needs of all people as the bearers of rights, if the goals of the SDGs are to be met. We identify four barriers contributing to the exclusion of gender and sexuality diverse people from programs and policies: neglect of concern (both institutionally in other ways) for human rights as they apply to all individuals; problems of politics as they relate to gender, sex, and sexuality; the continued power of patriarchy over individual and community life; and the neo-liberal framing of gender and sexuality diverse people. We propose a paradigmatic shift to ensure that equity, inclusion, and respect can be enjoyed by all people—regardless of gender and sexuality—in the twenty-first century.
