Aquatic ecology and biodiversity around Khao Pra Wiharn National Park, Thailand
(2011-12) Suchart Nawagawong; Nukul Sangpun; Mahidol University. Faculty of Environment and Natural Resource Studies
The area 4.6 km2 in the Pra Wiharn National Park is the area along the border line between Thailand and Cambodia. This area is still maintaining the problem in overlaps claming between this two countries. If the Pra Wiharn Temple, in which is locating in the area 4.6 km2, was nominated as the world heritage site then the area 4.6 km2 will be basically sensitively in the ecology system. The ecology system of Sra Trao pond ,in which only one water source above the Pa Mo I Daeng Cliff and the other running water sources, on the open area near the Temple, as the temporary pools should be studied and collected data for planning as the sustainable ecological area.

River cleaner : a game for teaching aquatic ecosystem conservation via garbage management
(Mahidol University. Mahidol University Library and Knowledge Center, 2022) Pachara Lersintavanon; Mores Prachyabrued; Worapan Kusakunniran
News about pollution and solid waste destructively entangling the cities and water environment, e.g., rivers, has strikingly been coming to light from time to time. As it is irrefutable that humans’ behaviors are essentially root causes of the pollution related problems owing to carelessness and insufficient level of care and attention towards the environment, an attempt to fix such problems is obligatory and must be initiated, principally by promoting self-discipline and highlighting the significance of environmental conservation and deliberately relaying the messages to the people. This project aims to develop a game that can effectively equip people to be more knowledgeable about waste management and conservation of the water environment. Given that games can be easily accessed by people from all walks of life, hopefully, the game I created is able to successfully and ultimately serve the aforementioned purposes. Implication of the Thematic Paper: This project includes a user testing of the game I created, during which observation and feedback gathering are made. The results reveal problems and lessons that can be used to improve my game design to have better development and educational potential in the future. I am also able to learn a way to encourage and build people's conscience toward the environmental topic.

Bacterial Contamination in Raw Shucked Oysters in Shucking Houses and Retail Shops in Chon Buri Province,Thailand
(2011) Chaweewun Intarakul; Suwanna Panutrakul; Sirichom Thungkao; ฉวีวรรณ อินทรกุล; สุวรรณา ภาณุตระกูล; ศิริโฉม ทุ่มเก้า; Burapha University. Faculty of Public Health; Burapha University. Oysters may be cross-contaminated with bacteria from an unsanitary shucking process and sale. Hence the aims of this study were to compare bacterial contamination in samples of shucked oysters from aseptic shucking, in shucking houses, and in retail shops in Chon Buri Province, and to investigate bacterial contamination in samples from surface areas of equipment, the fresh water used in the shucking process, and oysters processed for sale. Analysis of variance was performed after a logarithmic transformation of bacterial counts was conducted. The results revealed that counts of total bacteria, Staphylococcus aureus, and fecal coliforms in aseptically shucked oysters, were significantly lower than those same measurements in freshly-shucked oysters (p < 0.01, = 0.01, < 0.01, respectively) and in packed-shucked oysters (p < 0.01, < 0.01, < 0.01, respectively). About 90-100% of the shucking equipment was contaminated with total bacterial counts higher than acceptable limits, both before and during use. Fresh water exceeded the standards for total bacteria and coliforms in all samples, both before and after washing. The 40% of unwashed and 50% of washed shucked oysters exceeded the standard for total bacteria. The results indicated that bacterial contamination in these samples may be a consequence of unsanitary cleaning, storage, and handling of equipment and fresh water, including improper temperature controls during oyster processing and sale.

The study results have revealed that mostly the surface water quality of Huai Mae Tao was within the Type III of The Surface Water Standard... for Agriculture and Water Quality for Protection of Aquatic Resources . However, the turbidity and suspended solid levels were found to be varied according to seasonality. These 2 water quality indexes were higher than the allowed standard during the rainy season
